***DAILY DO’S – 7AM EDITION*** Wendi Lindquist
We’re half way through February, which means our state’s legislative session is half over (although they've been known to drag it on longer). With only a few exceptions, Friday is the last day to pass bills out of committee in their house of origin. By next Friday, all bills must be passed out of committee their house of origin. This leaves us a limited window of time to put pressure on local officials to move legislation on. So get ready to call Olympia.
Let's put our money where our values are - in our state, not in big banks that fund DAPL and other questionable projects. Call your state House reps today to voice your support for a State Bank! The bill has a hearing this afternoon. Feeling a bit of deja vu? Last time we called out the state’s Senate bill, now it's the House's turn.
Seattle has pledged to take $3 billion out of Wells Fargo in 2018 when its contract expires, and other cities—including Bellingham—seem keen to follow suit, communities are looking for a place to put money that would help the state rather than big banks.
Call the House financial services committee to vote HB 2059 out of committee this week! Write a comment here: http://bit.ly/2lOiqUB
#LookingForMore: Call / write again about the Senate Bill 5464. It still needs a vote out of committee this week before the legislative cutoff. http://bit.ly/2kREiA5
2. Seattle Divest
Speaking of DAPL…a new Seattle Divest campaign is launching today. A crowd of hundreds at City Hall would send a big message that Seattle supports divesting from fossil fuel projects. Interest in attending? Find the details here:

3. Voting Rights
We’ve seen time and time again how the intentional disenfranchisement of poor and minority voters can swing elections. Although Washington has a better record than many states, there’s still room for improvement. Please support Senator Sam Hunt and SB5267 - the REAL Voting Rights Act here in Washington state. For info on the bill: http://bit.ly/2lOpD79
Call Senator Mark Miloscia at (360) 786-7658 and demand a hearing on SB5267. He chairs the state government committee in the Senate and is expected to block the vote.
