***DAILY DO’S – FRIDAY 7AM EDITION***
Last day of calling...for this week at least. I had a very nice, albeit brief, chat with Pramila Jayapal's staff this afternoon when I called about the REINS Act. Have you had any great or frustrating interactions while calling your elected officials? Share your stories in the comments below.
1. The state legislative session starts on Monday. That means next week our elected officials will start discussing important issues related to education funding. As part of our #GoLong campaign, take a moment to speak up for education. Call your state representatives (http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/) and tell them to address the levy cliff and keep schools from facing big budget shortfalls in 2018.
2. On Tuesday Republicans passed a rule in the House which dramatically changes the way federal public lands are valued in land transfers, giving them no value at all. As an avid hiker and nature lover this sickens me. Ask the Senate to protect our heritage. Call your Senator to tell them to protect our public lands and reject any attempt by the Senate to transfer public lands to the states. Tell them you’re worried by the move from the House to de-value land transfers. (Senator Maria Cantwell is a GREAT conservation advocate.) DC switchboard: (202) 224-3121
3. Are you getting overwhelmed with all the different timelines for local and national action items? Want to get more organized about political organizing? Local artist Esther Loopstra along with writer and activist Erica Sklar put together this Free Action Planner Printable PDF: http://estherloopstra.com/socialjustice/. Thanks for the materials!
