*** YOUR DAILY DO'S - 3/15, EVENING EDITION *** Liz Bander
So yes, today is the Ides of March, but since every other media outlet is talking about the bad stuff that happened on this day, let's talk about something better: it's Dee Snider from Twisted Sister's birthday and more relevantly, World Consumer Rights Day. Did you know that? Because I didn't, until like 10 minutes ago. ********************** The FCC recently stopped a rule from being implemented that would have required ISPs to "obtain consumer consent before using precise geo-location, financial information, health information, children's information and web- browsing history for advertising and internal marketing." Sen. Jeff Flake initiated and 34 others have signed onto a resolution to undo the rule entirely. Your action tonight is to read up on the rule change, the arguments for and against and think about your position on this question. Access to data is a form of power and we have to think about who we want to have access to our data, to what data we want them to have access, and when and how we want them to access it. - https://www.fcc.gov/…/fcc-stays-data-security-regulation-br… - http://www.reuters.com/art…/us-usa-fcc-privacy-idUSKBN16F2UT - http://www.flake.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/op-eds… ********************** #DailyDos
