Frankly too many of us IGNORE democratic party politics, until its too late. Lets not repeat the debacle of last DNC convention.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE DNC? Approximately 447 members serve on the National Committee. The membership is composed of the following general categories:
"Most voting DNC members — a majority of whom are state party chairs, vice chairs or other locally elected officials — are keeping their options open ahead of a string of candidate forums in January and February."

My ultra-simplified summary: Ellison represents the "Bernie" side of the party. Perez represents the "old/clinton" side of the party. Trust needs to be built between the coalitions. There needs to be reassurances that the party will be progressive enough, and will represent all of its people. There needs to be commitments that the back room dealing done by the Party before the 2016 election, as leaked by wikileaks will never happen again.
Who is your State Democratic party representative:
- Oddly I can't find this information anywhere. This is a problem.
Ellison is the "front-runner', and Harrison just dropped out today, endorsing Perez, which may put him over the top.

The Most Progressive Platform In History - July 2016 - and Nobody knows it.
The 2016 Democratic Party platform was widely touted as the "most progressive in history". What were the planks of this platform, and how will it hold up for 2018 midterms? Why do the vast majority of democrats and the "new resistance" have no idea what the Democratic Party planks are? Because the Democratic Party has NOT MADE them Visible, Accessible, and Memorable. A classic case of poor messaging. (Skip to below the fold for the Platform outline and links)
The Democratic Party page has NO summary or infographic of its platform, nor one for each of it's planks. It's positions are inaccessible for anyone without very high Literacy and Motivation. You can visit the DNC website and see for yourself https://www.democrats.org/party-platform
How is the platform more progressive than 2012? One way to see some of the more progressive elements is by looking at the "unity amendments" delivered by negotiations between the Clinton camp and Sanders camp. They include:
The only, poor summary, of the new party platform I can find dated, July 2016, is in this Time article. So we'll take you straight to the source itself until we get a summary:
Here is the full platform outline with links to the document.
THE 2016 DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM
Every four years, the Democratic Party puts together our party platform, the ideas and beliefs that govern our party as a whole.
What follows is our 2016 platform — our most progressive platform in our party’s history and a declaration of how we plan to move America forward. Democrats believe that cooperation is better than conflict, unity is better than division, empowerment is better than resentment, and bridges are better than walls.
It’s a simple but powerful idea: We are stronger together.

Want to Influence the House or the Senate? Bypass wasting your time with useless petitions and phone calls?INDIVISIBLE A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR RESISTING THE TRUMP AGENDA Former congressional staffers reveal best practices for making Congress listen.
How grassroots advocacy worked to stop President Obama. We examine lessons from the Tea Party’s rise and recommend two key strategic components:
How your MoC thinks — reelection, reelection, reelection — and how to use that to save democracy. MoCs want their constituents to think well of them and they want good, local press. They hate surprises, wasted time, and most of all, bad press that makes them look weak, unlikable, and vulnerable. You will use these interests to make them listen and act.
Identify or organize your local group. Is there an existing local group or network you can join? Or do you need to start your own? We suggest steps to help mobilize your fellow constituents locally and start organizing for action.
Four local advocacy tactics that actually work. Most of you have three MoCs — two Senators and one Representative. Whether you like it or not, they are your voices in Washington. Your job is to make sure they are, in fact, speaking for you. We’ve identified four key opportunity areas that just a handful of local constituents can use to great effect. Always record encounters on video, prepare questions ahead of time, coordinate with your group, and report back to local media:

First they will hack the muslims, then they will hack the dissidents, then they will hack the liberals…then they will hack us. Think about what this kind of power would do in a McCarthy-esque set of inquiries. No. Just No. Sen. Wyden is not one to raise the alarm necessarily. This is a frightening reduction in privacy.
“In less than 24 hours a rule change goes into effect giving the government the power to hack into the computers and personal devices of law-abiding citizens without an individual warrant. I’m putting up a fight in the U.S. Senate to delay the rule change and protect our right to privacy and security. Sign, SHARE, and spread the word: Tell the Senate to stop mass hacking before it starts!”
TODAY'S CALLS TO ACTION
1. Call Senator Lindsey Graham's office at (202) 224-5972, push 2 if you get the recording.
Tell the staff member "I support Senator Graham's investigation into Russia's participation in the election of Donald Trump."
2. Call the House Oversight Committee at 202) 225-5074
Tell them you support the call for a bipartisan review of Trump's financials and conflicts of interests.
3. Write and/or call your elected representatives in the House and let them know you support the Presidential Accountability Act. Congresswoman Katherine Clark has brought forward a bill that would require US Presidents to resolve all conflicts of interest. More info about it is at http://katherineclark.house.gov/index.cfm/press-releases
With Trump meeting with his investors and his children both running his businesses after inauguration and yet also sitting in on state meetings, the conflicts are stacking up.
Now that Congresswoman Clark has stepped forward, lets give her bill some support.
Find out who your representative is at http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ . Put in your zip code and your House rep will pop up. See below for phone numbers, addresses and email links.
